Installation and Activation
Can Mekko Graphics 4 open charts saved in Mekko Graphics 5?
Mekko Graphics 5 is both forward- and backward-compatible with Mekko Graphics 4. That is, charts edited and saved in Mekko Graphics 5 are able to be opened and edited in Mekko Graphics 4, and charts saved in Mekko Graphics 4 are able to be opened in Mekko Graphics 5.
What is the difference between activation and registration? How do I locate my product serial number?
Activation is completely separate from product registration. Activation is required to use our software past the trial period. Registration is required for customers in order to receive technical support, and to receive information about product updates.
Your product serial number is located in our purchase confirmation email. After activation, it is also available in the Start menu in Mekko Graphics on the About screen. It is in the format xxxxx xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx with mixed characters. If it is still a trial version, it will say "trial version".
I get an install error when trying to install Mekko Graphics. What do you suggest?
You must have Administrator rights to install the Mekko Graphics software. To determine if you have Administrator rights, go to Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management - Local Users and Groups, find your name, right click on it and select Properties. Click the 'member of' tab and see if you are a member of the Administrator group. If not, you may wish to contact your IT department to change your Administrative properties or to assist you with the install. If you still experience problems, please contact Mekko Graphics support at support@mekkographics.com.
Is activation required?
Yes. You must activate your Mekko Graphics software within the 10-day trial period beginning upon installation. If you do not activate the software, you will be prevented from using it after the 10 days. During the 10-day trial period you have full use of the software and all of its features. There are optional reminders during the grace period so that you can use the software immediately and activate it when it is most convenient to do so.
How will the activation information be used?
The unique serial number assigned to each copy of Mekko Graphics software is combined with a "machine identifier" for the user's computer. When the product is activated on a computer, this machine identifier and the product serial number are provided to Knowledge Management Associates, LLC (KMA) to help ensure that each genuine copy of its software is not activated more than the permitted number of times. KMA's activation system does not collect, transmit, or use any personal information.
What happens if I get a new computer and want to install Mekko Graphics software on the new computer?
After you install the software on your new computer, you will be asked to activate the software. To make the license available for use on the new machine, you must first deactivate the license on the original machine. To do this, you must uninstall the software from your older computer to comply with the license agreement. When you uninstall the software, the software is automatically deactivated so that activation is available for another installation on another computer using the same serial number.

I don't have access to the computer on which I originally activated my Mekko Graphics software. Can I still transfer my activation to a new computer?
We strongly advise uninstalling Mekko Graphics from the original computer before decommissioning it; however, we understand that sometimes this is not possible. If access to the original computer is not available, you may not be able to activate on the new computer. Please contact Mekko Graphics support for assistance by sending an email to support@mekkographics.com.
Is there any way to deactivate my Mekko Graphics software without uninstalling?
No, you must uninstall the software in order to deactivate it. To uninstall, please see

Why do I receive the message "no activations remaining" when I try to activate the software?
Our licensing server tracks each activation event that occurs using your serial number. Each time you want to use a license on a new computer, you must be sure to deactivate the license from the original computer in order to free a license for use on the new computer.
Why should I choose to register the software?
We do not require you to register the software with us once it is activated, although we hope that you will choose to register.
There are a number of reasons that you may want to register
:
- It is the only way you can receive any Mekko Graphics support.
- We can provide you with news and updates as they become available.
If I have a valid Mekko Graphics license and I uninstall and reinstall Mekko Graphics on the same machine, do I need to obtain a new serial number?
No, you would use the same serial number, but you still have to activate the software since uninstalling Mekko Graphics automatically deactivates the software.
What if my automatic activation fails?
It is possible that your firewall is preventing online activation. In order to use automatic activation, you must have the ability to access the Mekko Graphics activation servers across the internet. If your firewall prevents this, you can still activate using offline activation. Your automatic activation may also fail if you exceed your maximum number of license activations for that serial number. If you are transferring licenses from one computer to another, remember to uninstall Mekko Graphics from the original computer prior to activating.
What is my offline activation fails?
Your offline activation may also fail if you exceed your maximum number of license activations for that serial number. In order to transfer software from one computer to another, you must deactivate Mekko Graphics on your old machine. Uninstall the software from your old machine and use off-line deactivation. Then install the software on your new machine and use off-line activation. If you still experience problems, contact us at support@mekkographics.com.
What if my automatic deactivation fails?
It is possible that your firewall is preventing online deactivation. In order to use automatic deactivation, you must have the ability to access the Mekko Graphics deactivation servers across the internet. If your firewall prevents this, you can still deactivate using offline deactivation.
What is my offline deactivation fails?
Offline deactivation should not fail. If you experience problems with offline deactivation, contact us at support@mekkographics.com.
If I am a new employee, can I use the license of an employee who has left the company?
Yes, you can use the license of an employee who has left the company, but you must uninstall and reinstall in order to activate the software and to register the software to your name. We strongly recommend you do this since it is required in order to receive support and update information about Mekko Graphics.
I activated my license a few weeks ago and now would like to register. How can I register my software or find out if I have already registered my license?
Once you have activated your license, you will immediately be prompted to register. If you did not do so at the time of activation, you can still register your license at any time.
Insert a Mekko Graphics chart and double click the PowerPoint® object to launch Mekko Graphics. Go to the Mekko Graphics Start menu and choose Register.
How can I add licenses to my subscription?
If you wish to add more licenses to an existing volume license at your organization, please contact sales@mekkographics.com. New licenses may be added to existing volume license serial numbers and the price will be prorated to account for the remaining time on your license. Additional licenses will follow the original volume purchase price.
Example: If a 12-pack was purchased in January 2012, at $219 per license per year, and you wish to add an additional license to this 12-pack in July 2012, your license will follow the initial price of $219 per year, then be prorated to $109 (based on the key’s remaining license time). The license key will expire in January 2013.
