Amazon Grocery Growth

Amazon is Poised for Growth in Grocery Sales

While the overall grocery market will only grow at about 2% per year, Amazon’s grocery business is projected to grow at 22% per year, over the next five years.  By 2021, Amazon will control about 33% of the $70 billion online grocery market and online sales will account for about 8% of the $900 billion grocery market according to Cowen and Company.  These are up from 26% and 4% respectively in 2016.  The charts below summarize the grocery growth by sector and the share of online sales in 2016 and 2021:

I used the three chart on a slide format to place one stacked bar and two 100% stacked bar charts charts on a single PowerPoint slide.  The stacked bar with CAGR column shows growth by sector.  the first 100% stacked bar shows share of online and of Amazon in 2016 and the second in 2021.  I used segment links in these charts to show that the second bar is an explosion of the online sector in the first bar.  I added percentage values to each segment to show how market share changed.  Uisng similar colors acorss the three charts makes it easier for users to identify the sectors and show how they change.  Here is the chart in SlideShare to download and edit using Mekko Graphics:
