Daniel Craig is fast approaching the most successful James Bond actors–Sean Connery and Roger Moore. Two of his three movies are among the highest grossing Bond films (adjusted for inflation). From the chart below, it looks like Bond is back and the franchise box office numbers could reach or even surpass the franchise peak in the 1960s and 1970s.
The Marimekko chart shows revenue by film and by lead actor. The bar widths represent the proportion of franchise revenue from all films with the lead actor. The area of each segment is proportional to the contribution of each movie to the franchise total box office.
I added a data row to show when the actor played James Bond. I also color coded the specific movies, grouping them into the top middle and bottom third based on inflation adjusted box office revenue. I added a customized legend to explain the color codes. Mekko Graphics has two ways to color code each segment. You can individually select and color the segments or you can use Excel’s conditional formatting by pressing the “Edit in Excel” button in the Data Editor . In this example, the movies coded in green drive home the message that three Bond actors were the most successful.
