Can Mekko Graphics 3 (Professional) open charts saved in Mekko Graphics 4?
Like most standard software applications, Mekko Graphics 4 is forward-, but not backward-compatible with Mekko Graphics 3. That is, charts edited and saved in Mekko Graphics 3 are able to be opened and edited in Mekko Graphics 4, but charts saved in Mekko Graphics 4 are not able to be opened in Mekko Graphics 3. This is partly because the newer versions need to store information relating to features that did not exist in the older versions. If Mekko Graphics were to try and save files in an older version, the loss of functionality in the save would be unacceptable to users. It is for this reason that we strongly recommend all users in an organization be at the same level of software if they plan on sharing charts.
Can Mekko Graphics 4.0 charts be opened in Mekko Graphics 4.2?
Yes, because Mekko Graphics 4.2 is a minor update to 4.0, charts
created in 4.2 can be opened in Mekko Graphics 4.0.
What is the difference between activation and registration? How do I locate my product serial number?
Activation is completely separate from product registration. Activation is required to use our software past the trial period. Registration is required for customers in order to receive technical support, and to receive information about product updates.
Your product serial number is located in our purchase confirmation email. After activation, it is also available in the Help menu in Mekko Graphics (as opposed to the Help menu in PowerPoint) on the About screen. It is in the format xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx with mixed characters. If it is still a trial version, it will say "trial version".


I get an install error when trying to install Mekko Graphics. What do you suggest?
You must have Administrator rights to install the Mekko Graphics software. To determine if you have Administrator rights, go to Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management - Local Users and Groups, find your name, right click on it and select Properties. Click the 'member of' tab and see if you are a member of the Administrator group. If not, you may wish to contact your IT department to change your Administrative properties or to assist you with the install. If you still experience problems, please contact Mekko Graphics support at support@mekkographics.com.
Is activation required?
Yes. You must activate your Mekko Graphics software within the 10-day trial period beginning upon installation. If you do not activate the software, you will be prevented from using it after the 10 days. During the 10-day trial period you have full use of the software and all of its features. There are optional reminders during the grace period so that you can use the software immediately and activate it when it is most convenient to do so.
How will the activation information be used?
The unique serial number assigned to each copy of Mekko Graphics software is combined with a "machine identifier" for the user's computer. When the product is activated on a computer, this machine identifier and the product serial number are provided to Knowledge Management Associates (KMA) to help ensure that each genuine copy of its software is not activated more than the permitted number of times. KMA's activation system does not collect, transmit, or use any personal information.
What happens if I get a new computer and want to install Mekko Graphics software on the new computer?
Transferring your license to another computer is different in Mekko Graphics 4 than it was in Mekko Graphics 3. (The transfer license process for Mekko Graphics 3 can be found here). Although there is no "Transfer License" option in Mekko Graphics 4, you can still transfer your license from one computer to another by deactivating the license. After you install the software on your new computer, you will be asked to activate the software. At this time, you must uninstall the software from your older computer to comply with the license agreement. When you uninstall the software, the software is automatically deactivated so that activation is available for another installation on another computer using the same serial number.
I don't have access to the computer on which I originally activated my Mekko Graphics software. Can I still transfer my activation to a new computer?
We strongly advise uninstalling Mekko Graphics from the original computer before decommissioning it; however, we understand that sometimes this is not possible. If access to the original computer is not available, you may not be able to activate on the new computer. Please contact Mekko Graphics support for assistance by sending an email to

Is there any way to deactivate my Mekko Graphics software without uninstalling?
No, you must uninstall the software in order to deactivate it.
Why do I receive the message "no activations remaining" when I try to activate the software?
Our licensing server tracks each activation that occurs using your serial number. Each time you want to use a license on a new computer, you must be sure to deactivate the license from the original computer in order to free a license for use on the new computer.
Why should I choose to register the software?
We do not require you to register the software with us once it is activated, although we hope that you will choose to register. There are a number of reasons that you may want to register:

If you have a volume license, it makes it easier to track all licensed users. |

If I have a valid Mekko Graphics license and I uninstall and reinstall Mekko Graphics on the same machine, do I need to obtain a new serial number?
No, you would use the same serial number, but you still have to activate the software since uninstalling Mekko Graphics 4 automatically deactivates the software.
What if my automatic activation fails?
It is possible that your firewall is preventing online activation. In order to use automatic activation, you must have the ability to access the Mekko Graphics activation servers across the internet. If your firewall prevents this, you can still activate using offline activation.
Your automatic activation may also fail if you exceed your maximum number of license activations for that serial number. If you are transferring licenses from one computer to another, remember to uninstall Mekko Graphics from the original computer prior to activating.
What is my offline activation fails?
Your offline activation may also fail if you exceed your maximum number of license activations for that serial number. In order to transfer software from one computer to another, you must deactivate Mekko Graphics 4 on your old machine. Uninstall the software from your old machine and use off-line deactivation. Then install the software on your new machine and use off-line activation. If you still experience problems, contact us at

What if my automatic deactivation fails?

If I am a new employee, can I use the license of an employee who has left the company?
Yes, you can use the license of an employee who has left the company, but you must uninstall and reinstall in order to activate the software and to register the software to your name. We strongly recommend you do this since it is required in order to receive support and update information about Mekko Graphics.
I activated my license a few weeks ago and now would like to register. How can I register my software or find out if I have already registered my license?
You may only register your license after activation. Once you have activated your license, you will immediately be prompted to register. If you did not do so at the time of activation, you can still register your license at any time.
Insert a Mekko Graphics 4 chart and double click the PowerPoint® object to launch Mekko Graphics. Go to the Mekko Help File and choose Register.

You may not register more than once, so if you have already registered, you will not be given the option to register again and will receive the following message.
