How I Made these Stacked Bar Charts with Data Columns

The data for these charts are presented below:

Data for stacked bar charts of number of billioanires in Europe, North America, Asia and rest of world and their wealth in 218 and 2019, including data columns showing percentage change.

Here's how I made the stacked bar chart with data column on the left:

  • create a 1/2 page left chart in PowerPoint (stacked bar by default)
  • type in data to Mekko Graphics Data Editor from WealthX Billionaire Census 2019
  • create Rest of World row by adding data for smaller regions
  • add formula for percentage change in column D
  • in Bars and Series dialog, designate column D as a CAGR column, hide rows for smaller regions and apply custom sort to series so that they display in order of 2019 data with largest on bottom
  • add legend and align with CAGR
  • hide axis lines, tick marks and labels by right-clicking on each axis
  • add y axis title
  • adjust internal margins and bar gaps
  • add segment links and bar comparison lines
  • show values and calculated percentage in segment labels
  • change colors of series

Copy this chart, paste it and place it to the right of the original chart. Update the data and y axis title for wealth data.
