Mobile App Store Activity
When compared to Google Play, Apple Store accounted for 65% of app spending, but only 24% of downloads. This app store trend held for both games and non-game apps, as shown in these three 100% stacked bar charts. The data also indicate that Google Play accounts for relatively more of both spend and downloads for mobile games than for non-game apps. App store activity data are from Sensor Tower.
App Store Spend and Downloads in Three 100% Stacked Bar Charts
How I Made these App Store 100% Stacked Bar Charts
Here is the app store activity data I used to create the 100% stacked bar charts:
Here's how I made the leftmost chart:
- insert three charts onto PowerPoint slide with "Insert Multiple Charts" button
- delete the rightmost 2 charts
- open the remaining chart and change the chart type to 100% stacked bar
- copy the app store data from Sensor Tower into the Mekko Graphics Data Editor
- Show calculated percentage labels in all bars
- format bar totals to show with B as suffix
- link all segments
- add axis title and hide rest of y axis and x axis line
- adjust internal chart margins and bar gaps
- manually edit bar total for spending to show $ as prefix
- move y axis title to be aligned with the left edge of first bar
Copy this chart to make the middle chart, replace the data, and add the legend to it. Copy the chart again and replace the data to make the right chart.
