What is the difference between activation and registration? How do I locate my product serial number?

Activation is completely separate from product registration. Activation is required to use our software past the trial period. Registration is optional, but preferred in order to receive up-to-date information.

Your product serial number is located in your purchase confirmation email. After activation, it is also available in the Mekko Graphics tab Help drop down menu.  If it is still a trial version, it will say “trial version”.

Is activation required?

Yes. You must activate your Mekko Graphics software within the 30-day trial period beginning upon installation. If you do not activate the software, you will be prevented from using it after the 30 days. During the trial period you have full use of the software and all of its features.

How will the activation information be used?

The unique serial number assigned to each copy of Mekko Graphics software is combined with a “machine identifier” for the user’s computer. When the product is activated on a computer, this machine identifier and the product serial number are provided to Mekko Graphics. Our activation system does not collect, transmit, or use any personal information.

How can I add licenses to my subscription?

If you wish to add more licenses to an existing volume subscription license at your organization, please use the Mekko Graphics Customer Portal or contact sales@mekkographics.com. New licenses may be added to existing volume license serial numbers and the price will be prorated to account for the remaining time on your license. Additional licenses will follow the original volume purchase price.

Example: If a 12-pack was purchased in January 2012, at $219 per license per year, and you wish to add an additional license to this 12-pack in July 2012, your license will follow the initial price of $219 per year, then be prorated to $109 (based on the key’s remaining license time). The license key will expire in January 2013.

Is there a way to install Mekko Graphics silently?

In order to run an InstallScript MSI or InstallScript project installation program in silent mode, you must first run Setup.exe with the /r option to generate a response file, which stores information about the data entered and options selected by the user at run time.

/r: Record mode (InstallScript and InstallScript MSI projects)

Running an InstallScript MSI or InstallScript installation program with the command Setup.exe /r displays all the run-time dialog boxes, and stores the data in a file called Setup.iss, created inside the system’s Windows folder.

To specify an alternative response file name and location, use the /f1 option, described below. The /f1 option allows the user to define a custom location for the Setup.iss file.

Example
Setup.exe /r /f1”C:\setup.iss”
*Note that there can be no space between /f1 and the file path.

/s: Silent mode (InstallScript and InstallScript MSI projects)
For an InstallScript MSI or InstallScript project, the command Setup.exe /s runs the installation in silent mode, by default based on the responses contained in a response file called Setup.iss in the same directory. (Response files are created by running Setup.exe with the /r option.)

/v”/qn” will send the silent command to the MSI installation.

Example
Setup.exe /s /v”/qn”
This will use setup.iss found in the current directory.
/v”/qn” will send the silent command to the MSI installation.

To specify an alternative response file name and location, use the /f1 option, described below. The /f1 option allows the user to define a custom location for the Setup.iss file. Use /f2 to specify alternative log file name and path.

Example
Setup.exe /s /v”/qn” /f1”C:\ Setup.iss”
Setup.exe /s /v”/qn” /f1”C:\ Setup.iss” /f2”C:\MekkoGraphics.log”.

In order to silently uninstall the software, please follow the same steps as silent installation.

Is there a way to activate Mekko Graphics silently?
A serial number and registration options can be specified during installation. This will allow the user to silently activate Mekko Graphics, and provide an option to allow the user to set registration options. The user needs to create an XML file containing the structure specified below:

<xml>
<Activation>
<!– Six groups of five digits each. –>
<SerialNumber>XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX</SerialNumber>
</Activation>
 <Registration>
<!– If RemindRegistration is false, the user will never be reminded to register again. –>
<!– If RemindRegistration is true, the user will be reminded every ten days to register their software. –>
<RemindRegistration>true</RemindRegistration>
</Registration>
</xml>

Simply add the following option to the command line to specify the path of this XML file:

ACTIVATIONFILE=%PATH%\activation.xml

The ACTIVATIONFILE property needs to be in the list of command line parameters that are passed to the MSI installation.
Example
Setup.exe /s /v”/qn ACTIVATIONFILE=C:\Activation.xml” /f1”C:\ Setup.iss”
Setup.exe /s /v”/qn ACTIVATIONFILE=C:\Activation.xml” /f1”C:\ Setup.iss” /f2”C:\MekkoGraphics.log”

SERIALNUMBER
A serial number can be specified during installation. This will allow the user to silently activate Mekko Graphics. Note that ACTIVATIONFILE has preference over SERIALNUMBER.

The SERIALNUMBER property needs to be in the list of command line parameters that are passed to the MSI installation.

Example
Setup.exe /s /v”/qn SERIALNUMBER=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx” /f1”C:\ Setup.iss”
Setup.exe /s /v”/ qn SERIALNUMBER=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx” /f1”C:\ Setup.iss” /f2”C:\MekkoGraphics.log”

If your automatic activation process fails, it may be an indication that there is a network connection issue (probably caused by a firewall). Users behind firewalls may need to adjust their firewall settings as needed to allow a successful activation. Doing this may require contacting a network administrator. You should make sure your firewall allows access to port 80 on www.mekkographics.com, or 69.147.176.8 –if you use an IP-based firewall.
