Tablet Shipments Rebound
After 5 years of decline, the pandemic spurred a 14% increase in tablet shipments in 2020, as shown in the bar chart on the left. Samsung and Lenovo benefited most, growing 44 and 64% respectively, as shown in the stacked bar chart with CAGR column on the right. Tablet shipments data were compiled by IDC.

How I Made These Tablet Shipments Bar Charts
Here is the data I used to create the charts is below:
Here's how I made the left chart:
- create a 1/2 page chart in PowerPoint
- enter the tablet shipments data from IDC into the Mekko Graphics Data Editor
- add y axis title and hide other elements of hide axis and hide x axis line
- adjust internal chart margins and bar gaps
- format bar totals with M as suffix
- add growth lines and display as CAGR
- update series colors
Here's how I made the chart on the right:
- copy the chart on the left and replace the data with the shipments by company data in A:4:D:10 above
- show the 2019-2020 data as a CAGR column and add Auto-Total to the CAGR column
- change y axis title
- add the legend and align it with the CAGR columns
- format series values with M as suffix
- add segment links
- adjust internal chart margins and bar gaps
