Top 25 Automakers by Market Capitalization
Tesla’s market capitalization is over 3 times Toyota’s, even though it produces far fewer cars, as shown in this horizontal bar chart with data column. Sixteen of the top 25 automakers sell over 1 million vehicles annually. These include familiar names like Volkswagen and General Motors. Five sell fewer than 100,000 vehicles per year, including newcomers like NIO and Xpeng and luxury automaker Ferrari. Data are compiled in a frequently updated online spreadsheet by Brandon Knablauch.

How I Made this Horizontal Bar Chart with Data Column
The automaker market capitalization data for this chart is presented below:
Here's how I made the horizontal bar chart with data columns:
- copy the automakers market capitalization data from the online spreadsheet into Excel
- rearrange the data as above using a PivotTable as an intermediate step
- create a horizontal stacked bar chart in PowerPoint
- use the Switch Bars and Series button to treat spreadsheet columns as series and rows as bars
- use Bars and Series dialog to indicate that Annual Vehicle Sales should appear as a data column
- hide series names and show bar totals formatted as $B
- adjust internal chart margins to provide more room for data column and bar labels
- add legend, move to bottom and adjust series colors
- add axis title, hide rest of y axis and x axis line
